He is currently serving as a researcher and faculty member in the Industrial & Information Engineering division of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Cagliari (UniCA), Italy. He is actively involved in the RETURN Project (multi-Risk sciEnce for resilienT commUnities undeR a changiNg climate), funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the PNRR initiative.
His current research focuses on the AI-based analysis of energy storage systems, wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring, and sustainable energy harvesting. Since joining UniCA in October 2023, his work has led to 10 peer-reviewed publications (journals and conferences), secured three grants, and fostered international collaborations. He has published over 30 research papers in total and serves as an active reviewer for IEEE and Elsevier journals. His expertise has earned him invitations to deliver talks at international conferences and faculty development programs.
In addition to RETURN, he contributes to five other interdisciplinary projects and is a key contributor to the European project LIA2S, in collaboration with his scientific mentor, Prof. Gianluca Gatto, DIEE, University of Cagliari, Italy.
Santhosh's journey in sustainable innovation began with his undergraduate thesis titled "Renewable Energy Locomotive", a pioneering concept using thermionic generation to power electric vehicles. This work received the Best Paper Award in 2009 at a conference sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. He continued this trajectory in his graduate research on induction motor control using dsPICs and later completed his PhD on "Certain Investigations on Brushless DC Motor with DC-DC Converter Topologies".
Beyond academia, he served as Senior Manager at ElectroSolve India Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru where he led the development of real-time testing solutions for the automotive and EMS industries. He holds certifications from B&R Automation, National Instruments, and Infosys.
Santhosh is also an innovator with four published patents, including:
- An IoT-based monitoring system using LoRa & LoRaWAN,
- A smart vehicle automation and tracking system using WSNs,
- An AI-powered no-ball detection system for cricket, and
- An IoT-enabled UV air sterilizer.
In recognition of his sustained academic and professional contributions, he was elevated to the grade of IEEE Senior Member in 2025.
