    Biography
    Junwei Cao is currently Professor and Deputy Director of Research Institute of Information Technology, Tsinghua University, China. He is also Director of Open Platform & Technology Division, Tsinghua National Laboratory for Information Science and Technology, Beijing, China. His research is focused on distributed computing technology and energy/power applications.
    Before joining Tsinghua in 2006, Junwei Cao was Research Scientist of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Before that he worked as Research Scientist of NEC Europe Ltd., Germany. Junwei Cao got his PhD in computer science from University of Warwick, UK, in 2001. He got his master and bachelor degrees from Tsinghua University in 1998 and 1996, respectively. Junwei Cao has published over 160 academic papers and books. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society and a Member of the ACM and CCF.

    One of sustainable development waysfor a cyber-energy infrastructure is the Energy Internet, which integrates distributed renewable energy with advanced information and networking technology. An Energy Internet is an Internet-inspired cyber-energy WAN (wide-area networks), with the power grid as the backbone and microgrids as LAN (local-area networks). It is a cyber-energy infrastructure with locally centralized controls and global decentralized synergy, connected by Energy Routers in an bottom-up and open peer-to-peer way.
    In this talk, a basic systematic architecture for Energy Internet is proposed. Existing efforts towards an Energy Internet is introduced in details. A systematic modeling approach is developed for Energy Routers. Co-simulation analysis is carried out among the energy LAN, WAN and backbones. Further investigation is focused on resource scheduling for decentralized synergy of energy routing and dynamic optimization for profit maximization of service provisioning. Finally, a prototype system is under development for semi-physical simulation and demonstration.
