    Jinzhu Gao, Ph.D.
    Associate Professor of Computer Science
    University of the Pacific

The advance in computing technology allows applications and simulations to produce a tremendous amount of data that should be shared, managed and analyzed in an effective and timely manner. Although intensive research has been undertaken on big data visualization and analysis, developing an integrated solution in a collaborative environment is crucial to promote long distance collaboration in research and education. The enormous growth in size and complexity of data requires such a solution to be scalable and easily accessible by people worldwide.

In this talk, Dr. Gao will highlight some of her work in data analysis and visualization for collaborative research and online education. This will include her previous work on scalable data management, analysis, and visualization in parallel and distributed environments as well as her ongoing efforts in virtual reality enhanced solutions.

    Short Bio:

Dr. Jinzhu Gao received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Ohio State University in 2004. From June 2004 to August 2008, she worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a research associate and then the University of Minnesota, Morris, as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science. She joined the University of the Pacific in 2008 and is currently an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Pacific. Her main research focus is on big data management, analysis and visualization for collaborative science. Over the past fifteen years, Dr. Gao has been working closely with application scientists to develop an online platform to support long distance collaborations in research and education. Her work has been published in top journals such as IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, IEEE Transactions on Computers, and IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications.
